Chelmsford Film Club was founded in 1987 and aims to show some of the best in independent, arthouse and world cinema.
All films are screened at the Chelmsford Theatre Studio (formerly the Cramphorn Theatre) in Chelmsford, and start at 8pm (unless otherwise indicated). The theatre has a licenced bar, available from 7pm, and a modern, fully-digital projection system.
Each season’s programme is led by members’ choices, and provides a selection of new releases and reissued classics across a variety of genres and themes. The season runs from September through to May.
Chelmsford Film Club welcomes members and guests. Please see the Membership page for details.
Our success and continuation is dependent on the loyalty and enthusiasm of our members. We are always pleased to see our friends returning and delighted to welcome new members to the Club. In addition to the published programme, we organise informal discussion evenings (where members can air their views on the films shown so far), an annual Quiz night and the occasional short film from up-and-coming British Directors. (Film makers: Please see our Shorts page if you have a film you would like us to consider for screening).

In 2014, everyone connected with the Club was saddened at the death of Jill Dimmock, who was a founder member and Chair of the Committee for its first 26 years. Jill was also a peace campaigner and a founder member of Brentwood CND and a tribute to her life was published in CND Peaceline in March 2014 which can be viewed here. She will be sadly missed by all at the Club.
Thinking about joining? Why not come along to one of our screenings as a guest. Guest tickets cost £6 and are available on the night on a first come, first served, basis.
Chelmsford Film Club is a member of Cinema For All (formerly the British Federation of Film Societies)
