Our Next Presentation:  BIRDS OF PASSAGE

THE CRAMPHORN THEATRE, CHELMSFORD – TUESDAY 21ST JANUARY @ 8PM

This is director Guerra’s follow-up to Embrace of the Serpent (2015). The story begins in the late 1960s, set in windy, arid northern Columbia. A primitive community is shown in its descent from cultural integrity to an environment for drug runners. The beautiful natural world is invoked as marked contrast with the destructive , corrupting effect on family life of the West’s desire for drugs. (see more…)

Following the screening of this film, we held our first discussion meeting for several years. This was quite well attended with everyone contributing to quite a lively discussion – we ran out of time and were unable to cover all films shown, so far, this season. We will be looking to hold a second meeting later in the season, probably following our penultimate film, Three Identical Strangers, on May 20.

Your opinion counts

May we encourage you to complete the Response Slips following the showing of each film – feedback (both positive and negative) helps us to decide what types of films to show in future seasons. In addition, you can leave comments for any of the films we have shown via the Discussion page.

Our Next Presentation:  CUSTODY

The Cramphorn Theatre, Chelmsford – Thursday 9th January @ 8pm

First time director/writer Legrand cites Greek tragedies, Kramer vs Kramer and The Shining among his influences. Would he also admit to Zvyagintsev’s Loveless? Miriam and Antoine have divorced and she is seeking sole custody of their son Julien to protect him from a father she claims is violent. The judge rules for joint custody, Julien becoming a hostage to the escalating conflict between his parents. (see more…)

As this is a relatively short film, we will be holding our first discussion night for several seasons, in the Foyer of the Cramphorn Theatre, immediately following the conclusion of this film. We will be commenting on all films shown this season, plus there will be an opportunity the comment on the Film Club in general. All are welcome to attend.
