Our Next Presentation: ‘The Daughter’

THE CRAMPHORN THEATRE, CHELMSFORD – Tuesday 11TH October @ 8PM

the-daughter-1Christian (Paul Schneider) returns to his hometown to attend his father’s (Jeffrey Rush) impending wedding to a much younger woman. There’s an icy atmosphere between father and son, but Christian enjoys a fond reunion with childhood friends. As the wedding nears, old secrets threaten a seismic shift in all their lives. The film is a radical adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s ‘The Wild Duck’.

Please note:  We will be holding a short AGM prior to the screening of this film.

Our last presentation ‘Dheepan’

  • ‘Excellent’:  9 votes
  • ‘Very Good’: 11 votes

Welcome to the new look Home Page

This season, the Home Page has a more dynamic look with a return for the Theatrical Trailer of the forthcoming film; as well as a more graphic representation for the feedback from the previous film.  I hope you like it!

Membership for the 2016/17 season

This season has proved to be a turning point for the Club. Our current membership numbers and the increasing costs of hiring the Cramphorn Theatre – £834, at least, now added for VAT charges thanks to the HMRC ruling – coupled with the license fees for showing the films, means that our subscription of £50 will not meet the costs of running the programme for the coming season. The Club cannot run into debt! To address this, we have calculated that we can afford to show 16 films if the subscription for members is £60 and the membership stays at 121 (the total for last season). And there’s the rub! We do need at least 121 members, again, to make the Club viable for another season. More than 121 members would be great, and might result in a small, healthy surplus. The more members, the more films we can show. We have been optimistic, would love to take the Club to even a 30th year (!!) but depend on current members joining again, bringing guests along (the guest ticket remains at £6) and bringing in some new members: friends, family and neighbours! Spread the word!

Our Next Presentation: ‘Dheepan’

THE CRAMPHORN THEATRE, CHELMSFORD – THURSDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER @ 8PM

Dheepan 2The 2016/17 season (our 29th) will start on Thursday, 29th September with Jacques Audiard’s critically acclaimed Dheepan.

An ex-Tamil Tiger, who has gathered around him a make-shift refugee family, finds himself in the tough, drug-fuelled economy of Paris’s lowest social environment. But Audiard delivers this tale of struggle and survival with his trademark lyrical sensitivity and detailed observation, winning him the Palme d’Or in 2015.

Please note:  Doors (and the Bar) open at 7:30PM.  As this is the first film of the season, we advise you to arrive in plenty of time if buying, or renewing, membership on the night.

We do need at least 121 members, again, to make the Club viable for another season. Therefore, so that we might have a clearer picture as to where we are going, it would be a great help to those of us who organise the programme if you could renew your membership as soon as possible or, alternatively, let us know as soon as you can if you are NOT going to join again.
