  • ‘Excellent’: 4 votes
    • Brilliant – The cinematography of Jack Cardiff was literally ‘out of this world’!
      Stood the test of time, despite the stagey performances of some.
    • Beautifully shot in wonderful Technicolor. A real treat from a great film maker.
    • But sound very loud.

    • A great film – so good to see it on a big screen, restored. So appropriate for Valentine’s Day!
    • Good that this was shown of Valentine’s Day. Nail biting stuff held one’s attention
      throughout. Good morale booster for the future after WWII
    • An extraordinary achievement for its time; highly imaginative!
    • A novel idea. I was interested to hear the prosecution and defence. David Niven was a good
      choice for the part – lovely eyes

    • A bit too saccharine for my taste.
    • Entertaining but dated in terms of acting style.

We slip in this classic of post 2nd WW British cinema from two directors working together who were immensely inventive and influential.

A fighter pilot miraculously escapes certain death and meets the girl of his dreams before heaven can rectify its mistake.

Showing in a 4K restoration from the BFI.

    • Breathtaking scenery, and excellent storytelling. Would Bruno have been so single minded had he spent a year studying in Turin?
    • Truly wonderful film. Totally absorbing. Beautiful scenery. Wonderfully natural actors.
    • The 4:3 Academy ratio was a great choice for portraying the wonderful mountain scenery.
      Sympathetic acting & direction – lovely
    • Good story; fab scenery; beards!

      attention to detail.
    • Hypnotically absorbing from the first to its very last minute. Beautiful photography and
