Our Next Presentation:  PHANTOM THREAD

Set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Wood and his sister Cyril are at the centre of British fashion, dressing royalty, film stars, heiresses, socialites, debutantes and dames.  Women come and go, until Alma arrives to disrupt his controlled, carefully tailored life.  Is Daniel Day-Lewis appearing in his final film, as he claimed?  He is the perfect fit for this gorgeous visual, and aural, treat. As we have reached the half way stage in the season, the price of membership for the remainder of the season has dropped to £32.50.

Family drama and black comedy mix in a distinctive, freewheeling study of suburban warfare.  When Atli is turfed out of his family house he has to move back in with his parents. They are in a bitter dispute with their younger neighbours over a tree shared by both houses.  Is it a beautiful piece of nature or an annoying obstruction to sunbathing?  Acute social drama, alive to the pettiness of any two sides unwilling to back down. Members, please select up to 16 films, from the 32 on offer, that you would like to see next season and email the numbers to Peter Bunyan – the deadline has been extended to Friday 12 April. The Selection Committee will be meeting in the coming weeks to begin creating next season’s programme.

Our Next Presentation:  I AM NOT A WITCH

After an 8-year-old girl is convicted of being a witch, she is sent to a camp in the desert.  Choices are offered her: accept her supernatural branding and live a tethered life as a sorceress, or cut her ties with local tradition, be transformed into a goat, killed and  eaten for supper!  A wonderfully daring, satirical parable of magic, misogyny and superstition..
