Our Next Presentation:  L’AMANT DOUBLE

The Cramphorn Theatre, CHELMSFORD – TUESday 29th January @ 8PM

-2160Days -19Hours -5Minutes -45Seconds
Marine Vacth and Jérémie Renier

Receiving treatment from a psychologist, Paul, for psychosomatic aches and pains, Chloé falls for him.  Living together, she discovers that Paul has an identical twin, Louis, also a therapist, the ‘double’ in the title.  An inevitable affair develops.  Dualities run  through the film, with allusions to Hitchcock – the score and a Vertigo-style spiral staircase, and a debt to Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers.  A skin-tingling erotic thriller as only Ozon could construct.  (Read more…)

Our Next Presentation:  THE SQUARE

The Cramphorn Theatre, CHELMSFORD – Monday 3rd December @ 8PM

-2217Days -19Hours -5Minutes -45Seconds

Disaster strikes when curator Christian hires a public relations team to build some hype for his renowned Swedish museum.  Winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, Ostlund follows up Force Majeure (2014) with this edgy satire on the contemporary art world, male privilege and middleclass do-goodism.  Lots of surreal, absurd humour as Christian’s image as a liberal paragon starts to crack.  Fine performances, notably from Elizabeth Moss and Dominic West.  (Read more…)

Our last presentation ‘The Orphanage’

Once again, apologies to everyone who turned up expecting to see ‘Loving Vincent’, only to discover that the film had not been received from the distributor.  Despite the short notice we were able to screen an alternative (a film we had shown around 10 years ago, and for which the club still had the disc).

Our Next Presentation:  LOVING VINCENT

The Cramphorn Theatre, CHELMSFORD – Tuesday 27th November @ 8PM

-2223Days -19Hours -5Minutes -45Seconds

A story depicted in highly experimental oil painted animation, with actors playing scripted roles
while digital software apparently facilitates the over-painting.  A young man comes to the last
hometown of painter van Gogh to deliver the troubled artist’s final letter and ends up investigating
his last days.  An intriguing, impressive and accomplished work of cinema.  (Read more…)
