Set initially in modern day Paris a journalist (Kristen Scott Thomas in another noteworthy performance) becomes obsessed with the story of a young Jewish girl caught up in the notorious Vel d’Hiv Roundup by French police in German occupied Paris in 1942. It reflects the varying attitudes by the French people to the situation – both humane and inhumane but ultimately the film signifies how one small act made under extreme stress can resonate through the years.
